I hate it when this happens. I just remembered (8 am on Sunday) the chicken fried steak...

...I left in the oven on the warming rack last night.

We RARELY deep fry anything. Heck, we rarely SHALLOW fry anything! I made CI's chicken fried steak last night for dinner along with baked potatoes and cut corn. Had the extra pieces sitting on a warming rack in a slow oven. I turned the oven off but forgot to take the steaks out.

Remembered it this morning. Dagnabbit.

At least your meal is still edible. Mine could be deadly, if eaten. I must say I considered...

...nuking it in the microwave and then into the toaster oven to re-crisp the outside, but, hey, why risk death over a couple of tortured cube steaks, right?

Michael

I hate when that happens! DS is upset with me because we forgot to take out the leftover waffles

from yesterday morning, so he had to have eggs this morning.

Oh Michael, I've done that. I don't have a warming oven, so I leave the oven light on now to remind

I'm glad I'm not alone. It's like Joe says, 'disheartening'. Cooking takes effort...

...and waste is just wrong.

Forgetfulness is maddening!

You can destroy SOME toxins (but not all) by boiling. . .

something like crazy, but who wants boiled chicken fried steak.

As the saying goes, when in doubt THROW it out! Maybe you could have a frisbee contest throwing the pieces of steak into a trash can outdoors. You could do this indoors, but the oil is hard to clean up without detergents! smileys/smile.gif

When I make chicken fried steak . . .

I just stack the stuff on a small rack on a warmed dinner plate. But we don't eat it smothered in gravy and I feel it the stuff is properly cooked it is good a room temperature, just like chicken fried chicken.

I have forgotten stuff in the oven too, what a waste and PITA. I now leave a special kitchen light on in the kitchen so that I remember to put hot things into the fridge. If something sets out all night on the counter or in the oven, I don't even feed it to my chickens--that's a DOUBLE waste!
