I have a question to which there is probably no answer, but

here goes anyway - is there any way to tell a good acorn squash? I buy my produce from a local and very good store, but still find that it is hit or miss with acorn squash. Sometimes it is deep orange and great, other times pale yellowish and awful. Seems to me all the regular tests won't work, but does anyone have a trick? Thanks

I press in at the top, where the stem is, and if it gives a little, I figure it's ok. Seems to work.

I have never had a problem with getting good

acorn squash, but I think Cathy has it just right==they need to be hefty.

Dawn, Cathy, Durward: Just stood in produce aisle pressing, peering and juggling. Think I have two

good squashes - could definitely notice a difference among various squash. Thanks for the tips.
