I have an odd request. I am trying to get my plant collection started again.

I had a lovely collection of cacti in San Diego. I didn't have the presence of mind to take cuttings. I want to start a collection of Thanksgiving cactus, Christmas cactus, Easter cactus, etc. again. It would be quite costly to buy them, but they are easy to start from cuttings (branches).

The Thanksgiving cactus is Schlumbergera truncata, Christmas cactus is actually Zygocactus, and the Easter cactus is Rhipsalidopsis gaetneri. They are so easy to start from slips. I would love it if anyone would send me clippings in a legal-size envelope. I will reimburse you for postage. Thanks!

I don't have any, but mom use to take starters from parks

(don't know how legal that is) but we had some beautiful plants in the yard she propagated from Golden Gate Park. I'd also post/look on Craigslist and local garden clubs/meet-ups.

Goodness, trying again: Dawn, I have a bunch of succulents that you may have cuttings from. . .

Send me your address via this site and I will send you a little box of a variety of them. I have some christmas/easter cactuses, various kinds of hen-n-chicks things, other types of succulents.

Instructions:

1. Take at least a 3 or 4 stem segment and twist it off at the joint. Some people do take sharp scissors and cut right at the joint - you decide on the method you'd like to use.

2. Allow cuttings to dry a minimum of 24 hours so they seal over.

I would suggest wrapping loosely in some news paper and then loosely in plastic then box/bag and ship.

I can send you some odd/rare things if you like. Not sure you want that.

A carion plant. Grows in the Caribbean and gets HUGE star-shaped flowers that stink like rotting meat.

A night-blooming cereus, from Asia. The huge fragrant, complex, beautiful flowers open at night over a period of 3 hours. We've had parties to watch them open.

If you're interested, I'll see if I can find some photos.

Yes, that is what the flower looked like on mine. It seems like mine

was a little bit smaller, but it looked like it otherwise.
