I have decided I need a pressure cooker, but not an Instant Pot. Suggestions?

A couple of years ago, I bought the Fagor Duo, but they never came to full pressure. It didn't seem to be the gasket. They are great cooking pots, so I don't regret having bought them (at Costco prices), but now I want a real old-fashioned stainless PS that reaches 15 psi and (wishful thinking) has the bobble thing on top showing what pressure has been reached. Does such a thing exist? Even the Presto (which is what we always used before) has the stupid plastic button on the handle, so teeny you can't tell if it's up or down.

I don't want the Instant Pot because it will sit on my counter taking up space, and I can't take it to the sink to reduce pressure quickly. I also don't need all the functions - I have a slow cooker that I don't use much, I cook rice in the microwave, I buy yoghurt.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Or should I just buy a new gasket for the Fagor?

I have the Fagor and I love it

I looked to see what ATK recommended and this was their "Best Buy" option.
It does not have High and low settings, but I can clearly see when the button pops up, but I go by the steam coming from the vent at the handle.

The gasket gets a light coating of oil after it's washed and dried, before being stored away.

I suggest you try a new gasket before ditching it.

I like my Cuisinart, but here's what CI says about stovetop PC's. Fagor discontimued.

I agree with Judy, buy the gasket. smileys/smile.gif The Cuisinart, last time I checked has one of the highest PSI. See last paragraph re gasket seal.

CI:
Our former Best Buy stovetop pressure cooker, the Fagor Duo, was discontinued when the Spanish manufacturer went out of business. However, the U.S. branch became a separate company called Zavor and is producing the same cooker, calling it the Zavor Duo 8.4 Quart Pressure Cooker (about $120). We purchased it and put it through its paces, using all the same tests. The new pot has minor improvements: The settings, handle lock, maximum fill line, and the spot where you align lid and pot to seal the cooker are all more clearly marked. Its cooking surface is slightly narrower and it didn’t reach as high a temperature as the previous model, however, we had no difficulty browning food or cooking. The rebranded model by Zavor is our new Best Buy. We recommend following the manual’s instruction to put vegetable oil on the gasket to make it easier to get a tight seal under pressure and to help the lid slide smoothly.
Best pot: Fissler Vitaquick: $279 Best Buy: Zavor $119.00

Thank you so much, Judy and Mo.

I appreciate the advice and the research! I will buy a new gasket.smileys/smile.gif

I have a Tfal that I loved for the way the timer worked with the pressure valve but it

isn't available now. And with the advent of Instant pot types the changes to PCs has really changed also.
But can you not use the quick release valve instead of sink and water. Have to admit, I never did that anyway.
But to me the most important part of a PC is how fast it gets up TO pressure.
