I have never done a lot of baking but seem to be doing more of it lately, so I came across

an ingredient new to me which a cookie recipe calls for "red icing sugar". Today at my very well stocked grocery store I could not find anything that said the above. All I could see was Wilton's red sprinkles or red sugar as it said on the bottle. The sprinkles are very fine. Is this the same as red icing sugar?

I guess it's our CDN name for frosting sugar, confectioner's sugar, the powdery stuff that

has cornstarch in it. We just call it icing sugar. Do you call it confectioner's?? Or XX something. It's been too long.

Yeah, powdered sugar. I thought that is what it was but started to

wonder. What do you call the sugar that Mar is talking about above?

Good question. We have a coarser grind of sugar that is sold for the same purpose but I think it

doesn't have a special name, at least not on the package. In a recipe we would know it as sanding sugar but it is just sold as coarser sugar. I'm going to look on my next outing.

We are simple folk, you know, specially me.

There is also the fine sugar that is called berry or fruit sugar. I forget what you call it.

Thanks! This just became my *cookie swap* entry for this year.

I've tried a few so far and nothing is ringing my bells.
(I think someone stuffed a sock inside).
