I have one of those H2O absorbing gel filled bandanas that I soak and wear around my neck when

gardening---they really work well for keeping cool longer. But I haven't needed it all summer. just not hot up here. in the mid to upper 60s mostly.

We have a new Asian market a couple of miles from us and if it EVER cools down to the 90's...

we will walk there. It's been 113 plus for several days now...

Speaking of which: adding tapioca starch to ice cream base

I'm reading a Vietnamese cookbook and the author mentions that she adds 1.5 TBL of tapioca starch to her cooked custard base to keep ice cream from melting so quickly.

Has anyone tried this?

I've linked the book at Amazon, but apparently I've used search inside this book too many times because the application finds the ice cream pages and displays the found items, but won't let me access them.

To be ready for a test case, I picked up a bag at the Viet grocer yesterday when I bought more yummy holy basil (RAU QUE). Which is not the same as the Thai basil that I bought at the Thai grocery store, even though both stores tried to tell me they were one and the same.
