My 7.5 qt. dutch oven serves the same purpose. It stays on the stove, always.

My next purchase is another porcelain-on-cast iron dutch oven, but bigger. 13 quart.

Even though the boys will be off to college soon, I still cook big and freeze. I've found myself in a position where I wish I had one more than once.

Yeah, you're right. Even the 7.5 is heavy. My family makes me wash it.

Watching Lidia Bastianich use her big dutch ovens is what makes me envious. She can prepare large volume dishes. I often have to revert to a stock pot to do that, when the tall, narrow opening isn't ideal.

I'd use mine a lot, I think, with two teenage boys at the table.
