To which I said, "It might be awhile. My venison chili is too good for Fritos, and I don't buy that canned Hormel stuff."

"How about a peanut butter sandwich then?

"You want some grape jelly on that?"

"No, plain is fine."

I think I'll make some ravioli with the confit of pheasant legs set aside from the pheasant and morel potpie. I'm sure I won't have to share! Later.

I just countered with an offer for pork chile verde with posole, and

she says, "Okay, I SURE haven't had that in a long time." Two birds with one stone time here! Now I get to try out new cookbook,"The 150 Best American Recipes" and avoid a confrontation over using new sausage stuffer to make boudin.

Confession time - both the ravioli and Frito pie would be welcome at my table

with home made chili on the Frito Pie, of course!

Hi Orchid - Frito Pie is just Fritos corn chips topped with chili and your favorite

chili condiments ~ purists say it must be served using a single serve bag of fritos, with the whole kit and caboodle served in said bag.

We go upscale and serve it in a bowl. smileys/wink.gif

Learn something everyday! We love Fritos and chili...we'll give it a go. Thanks! PS..I'll use a bowl

Frito Pie tastes better from teh bag in a football stadium...but it

isn't what I consider cooking. It is closer to using Hamburger Helper than I care to get. Don't want to sound uppity here---I like it but I don't want to make it. Fortunately the chile verde was a big hit.

REC: Taco Taco Dip

This is in my favorites, just ready for those Fritos cravings!

Tacole Taco Dip
Printed in the Los Angeles Times

1 6-oz. package corn chips (Fritos), coarsely crushed
1 15-oz. can chili with beans
1 lb. ground beef
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. pepper
1/2 tsp. cumin
1 tbl. chili powder
1/4 cup beef broth
1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
Garnishes: chopped tomato, sliced onion, shredded lettuce, salsa

Line an 8x8” baking dish or round casserole dish with foil. Place 2/3 of the corn chips in bottom of pan. Spread chili with beans evenly over chips. In large frying pan, brown ground beef. Remove fat from pan with paper towels as in ‘Taco Casserole’ recipe. Stir in salt, pepper, cumin, chili powder and broth. Spoon this mixture over the chili and chips mixture. Place remaining chips evenly over meat. Sprinkle with cheese.
Bake at 350 deg. for 30 minutes or until thoroughly heated. Serve with garnishes.

Oh how funny! It reminds me of something served frequently in the "international cafe" at

my university- picture this:

Bologna, about 5" diameter- thick slabs of it, fried in butter then plunked on a plate with a peanut butter sauce (probably just PB and milk) ladled over it. They called it.....Punjab Steak.

Now that has to be one of the most unappetizing things I can imagine. I'd react to that like the

people on Survivor do when they're faced with bugs to eat.
