I just bought a huge Italian cookbook (more)

It weighs at least 5 lbs and I'll be lucky if I don't gain that after trying some of the recipes.

Can anyone suggest anything a little different? I/we like garlic, but not too much, white or red sauce, many vegetables, chicken, beef, and especially fish. I'm tired of making the same old-same old, and just need ispiration/ideas.

Any must-tries for a infrequent Italian cook? (Remember, my mother never made anything ethnic, and I didn't even have spaghetti until about the 6th grade in elementary school!) Thanks!!

Dawn

P.S. It was $1 at the local library used book sale and it doesn't even look like it has been opened!

I was just coming back on to post that - It's "Encyclopedia of Italian Cooking" published by

Hermes House. 518 pages of great-looking food!

Have you ever heard of it, and can you recommend something good?

For those who are interested, here is another monster Italian cooking "bible"

I've owned this one since 1970 and it is sort of like an Italian version of the great Larousse Gastronomique. Beginners will have trouble because many things are assumed but it is the most incredible Italian cooking reference I, personally, have seen.

Just the other day I saw the book you got, Dawn- it looks very good! It just made me think of this book (link) and I don't think I have ever posted anything about it before. So, for those of you wanting a very complex and thorough tome of Italian recipes, see this one too.

Cathy, I have that one, have mostly used it as a reference, excellent! Since I've been doing a lot

of couch time, have a stack of the big guys I have been devouring. Just pulled it off the shelf and added to stack.

Also Dawn, the January Gourmet is dedicated to Italian regional cooking. Beautiful issue!

Enjoy it!!!

Count me in, ladies. I do more browsing than buying, since my shelves...

...they are a-burstin', but I can't resist libraries and thrift stores for the same reason.

Michael

So, anything from this book I must try this weekend? As long as it

isn't spaghetti (we still have some left in the refrigerator ;o)).
