instructions say not to use detergent. Just to wash in warm water. Huh? Tomorrow I'm going to make a Portuguese type soup with smoked sausage and chicken. I'm only to wash in warm water? I'm having trouble wrapping my brain around that. Is that right?

Re: Rachael Ray dutch oven....

The only instructions regarding cleaning, that I found, say to hand wash. no info found on not using soap/detergents...Steph

The "Use & Care" instructions placed inside the pot says..."Do not use

a scouring pad, stiff brush or detergent. Wash your pan lightly in warm water after each use." I take detergent to mean dish soap.

Well, I just did a google search and everything says to use warm water and dish soap.

Why would the manufacturer put that in their care sheet? Whatever.....

I don't have enameled cast iron (lots of cast iron) but why couldn't you use detergent on enamel?

Probably to cover themselves. I scratched my enamel pot rather severely trying to remove stains.

Maybe they were also latching onto the standard "don't use soup in cast iron" tenet? That makes sense for a standard cast iron pan, but not when the pan has been enameled. Does RR also sell cast iron pans? Maybe they are just using the same set of directions?

By the way, I found deep red wine stains can be removed from a white enamel interior by boiling water with a scoop of "Oxyclean". Looks great...right up until you cook anything other than water or white rice in it...then it picks up the stain again.

Marilyn, you and I have something in common here, I've ruined more items

cleaning them than I can count. I've etched glass shower stalls by being overly diligent among other things. I could tell you stories. Btw, did you get your cooktop clean enough to make you happy, and was the finish okay?

Nope, I think the stove is permanently ruined. I'm leaning toward the "sloth" methodology of

cleaning now: "Don't Clean. Don't Tell."

Marilyn, what a bummer about your stove! I was hoping that it cleaned up! Did the speckle come off?

Okie Dokie...I'll be picking up some oxyclean. The pamphlet is specific

about enamel. Weird. Anyway, I used it yesterday for my Portuguese soup and it was just the perfect size. Very nice, and it was one of those days that something had to be made so I could eat before I left and John could eat when he got home. He said it was still warm.
