I just broke out in hives after I ate a candied pecan.

The only other things I have had today were a glass of grapefruit juice and a cup of coffee. I looked at some recipes for candied pecans and the only offending ingredient that I can see, might be the egg white. Has anyone else had a reaction from egg whites? I eat eggs on a weekly basis and have never had a problem, the same with nuts. Any ideas?

I was almost thirty when I developed allergy to peanuts, started breaking

out in hives. You're going to have to get tested or avoid eggs and nuts because if you got hives this time you are very likely to have a stronger anaphylactic reaction and be in real trouble next time. Sorry to sound dramatic but it can be that sudden. Friend of mine here at work who is in her fifties just started having anaphylactic reaction to penicillin and she has taken it all her life. If you are feeling at all hoarse or funny you need to go to the emergency room and you need a prescription for an epi-pen.

I hadn't taken anything otc or prescribed. Gosh, I hope it isn't eggs or pecans for that matter!

No, nothing new like that. Clothes that I have worn before; everything

pretty much the same. I finally broke down and took some Benadryl and that is helping. Thanks everyone!

I am not sure because I didn't make them. But they seemed to be

a standard candied pecan. I looked at some recipes and most of them called for butter, brown sugar and an egg white. Nothing out of the ordinary I am guessing.

No, it didn't. I still have a little residual rash, so I am wondering if it is something else going

on.

I broke out in hives for about 6 months earlier this year. After cutting things out of my diet that

I eat regularly: egg white, almonds salad tomatoes wine ......... for several weeks, I still broke out. My doctor did a blood test that told me what I was allergic to. I egg whites were on the list, peanuts, pork, ect. Thankfully wine was not on the list!!!!!!!! Good luck I can sympathize. My doctor told me if I eat things every day ( egg whites tomatoes salad ect) like I do that my body would develope a reaction. Hope you find out what you reacted to. I had hive all over, thankfully not on my face. I still have occasional hives, not to the extent I had for all those months I looked like a freak.

I just thought of something, I am using a new shampoo.

I have used this brand before, but not this exact formulation. That might be the suspect. I know I am allergic to lanolin, maybe it has some in it. I will take a look at the ingredients. I hope it is as simple as that. In the meantime I am going to stay away from nuts and egg whites. Thanks everyone!

Interesting about the pork and peanuts as swine are fed peanuts in some places. I wonder if there's

a connection? Is a person who's allergic to peanuts allergic to pork that's been fed peanuts?
