I just found this great site for free Kindle books, and not just classics.

AngAK1--your post is exceptionally timely! DH just had an out-patient sinus cavity cleaning-out

surgery on 12/23 so he is pretty much down as he recovers from that 65-minute procedure.
As background, it was around August when Paul lost his sense of smell & taste--after trying several non-invasive doctor-directed remedies with no improvement whatsoever (example, he went through 3 different rounds of antibiotics to clear up a sinus infection), surgery was his final option.
After Paul's ENT, Dr. Sanders, was finished on Monday, he told me Paul was literally loaded with LOTS infection, which was all removed. I had no idea there was such a thing as chronic sinus infection which could be so resistant to antibiotics. At 63 this is the first time Paul has ever had a sinus infection!
There are no guarantees that Paul's smell & taste will return, but at least the crud is out. Of course, he needs to stay off his feet and keep his head elevated to promote drainage so he's been reading a lot in between frequent naps from his pain pills. Your Kindle site will be just the ticket. I thank you profusely for letting us know about this. You are our Christmas angel!
It's a very different holiday here with me playing nursemaid instead of cook, but at least we were able to slide this in on our 2013 insurance deductible. I took a 12-1/2-hour long winter's nap last night--am feeling immensely rejuvenated this morning. My recent round-the-clock frequent wake-up times to keep tabs on Paul all day Monday & Monday night took their toll.
It is ALWAYS something in this household--that's a direct quote from Roseanne Roseanna Danna on the old Saturday Night Live sitcom which describes the 2 of us to a T. lol!
May your new year be filled with joy and good health and love. Sincerely, Wigs aka Caryn

Wigs - I hope Paul feels better and regains his sense of taste / smell. I would never have thought

that a sinus infection could be so serious. (I have had them, and they are awefully painful), but never have heard of losing taste / smell. What a shame. I wish him a speedy recovery, as I am sure he is missing out on your kitchen goodies!

Another good entertaining tip. I have been watching tons of stuff on You Tube lately. Documentaries,

old movies, etc. I wasn't an early adopter of YouTube but now? Major fan. If he likes documentaries, search for BBC, History Channel, National Geographic Documentaries.

I've also found a lot of movies that are apparently out of copyright. Christmas Eve I had a hankering to watch Shirley Temple's Little Princess. It was there. All my favorite holiday classics were there too.

I've also enjoyed watching lectures/author readings, etc. Google Authors, the Commonwealth Club, The Strand, etc.

The wonderful thing is being able to dive into a topic deeply. I started watching Henry VIII documentaries, then was able to dive into a documentary on his body, several individual episodes on his various wives, etc. Yeah, I totally geeked out. smileys/smile.gif

Thanks for all your kind words and suggestions! I'll be sure to pass everything along 2 Paul.

FYI, this has certainly been a weird situation. Paul never had any of the normal sinus infection symptoms such as a headache or an aching face or any feeling(s) of pressure. His senses of smell & taste just gradually began to sporadically disappear. The very first appointment he had with the ENT was when he was told that he had a sinus infection! He had no idea. How crazy is that?
Paul began feeling much better yesterday and continues to make noticeable improvement today. He finally began to sleep better....catnapping for 2 days after his sinus surgery simply was not cutting it. Personally, I've never encountered a pain pill that didn't conk me out, but Paul's weren't having that effect on him. At long last, yesterday he crashed and got some decent zzzz's which has made a big difference in his healing process.
We have been told there are no guarantees as to whether his Dec 23 sinus surgery/procedure will fix his 2 lost senses. It's very individual so it's a "wait & see" situation. I'm very thankful all that backed up infection has been removed. Can't have been good to have that embedded in a person's sinus cavities for the past couple of months or maybe even longer.
Again, I sure appreciate all your good ideas, and I'm confident we'll be using each & every one. Wigs
