My stepdaughter made this yesterday and brought her dad over a piece of it, which I had a bite of and it was delicious! It is very sweet though, almost like apple pie meets pecan pie.

This is definitely what I am bringing to the next potluck/meeting I attend.

Pies Pies & Pastry

Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method

For Piepastry for single-crust pie

1/2 cup sugar

3 tablespoons flour

1 teaspoon cinnamon

1/8 teaspoon salt

6 cups thinly sliced peeled apples

Crumb Topping

1 cup packed brown sugar

1/2 cup flour

1/2 cup quick-cooking rolled oats

1/2 cup butter

Final Topping

1/2 cup chopped pecans

1/4 cup caramel ice cream topping

Prepare pastry for single-crust pie, being careful not to stretch dough too much.

Place in pie plate and trim and crimp the edge.

In a large mixing bowl, stir together the sugar, flour, cinnamon, and salt.

Add apple slices and gently toss until they are coated well.

Transfer mixture to pie.

FOR CRUMB TOPPING: Stir together brown sugar, flour, and oats.

Using a pastry blender, cut in the butter until topping resembles coarse crumbs.

Sprinkle over apple mixture in pie.

To prevent over-browning while baking, cover edge of pie with foil.

Bake at 375* for 25 minutes.

Remove foil and bake 25-30 minutes more, or until top is golden.

Remove from oven and drizzle top with caramel topping, then sprinkle with pecans.

Cool on wire rack and serve!

Wendy N note: My grandmother gave me this recipe after she made it for me during a visit about 5 years ago. I like to use Granny Smith apples, leave the peel on, and cut slices that are a little thick, but do whatever you wish! This is a very good pie and I'm always asked to make it! Thanks, Grandma!! (Very good served with vanilla ice cream!)

I know it has a lot of sugar, but I am telling you, it was delicious. LIke an apple pie

and a pecan pie combo. Delish! And I am not a pie person at all. This one I was glad we only had one slice.

I would make it as is, but for me...

since I do not have a sweet tooth, I found it really sweet, but really good. The only two pies that I like very much are apple and pecan. Well, I love French Silk but that one, I just eat the filling and skip the crust, so it is more like a mousse. I would try the recipe "as is" if you make it and then go from there. I was glad my stepdaughter only brought one piece! smileys/smile.gif
