I just served the kids some "slurpy noodle soup" aka Chinese Chicken Noodle Soup...

now had I told them that it was Chinese Chicken Noodle Soup, they would have said ewwwwwwwwwww. However, slurpy noodles soup, with the instructions to grab some noodles and slurp them up, they are asking for seconds. LOL. It's all about marketing.

Isn't it crazy what a funny name or twist can do for kids?

I used to do silly things like that to get my daughter's friends to try things - she wasn't too bad but her friends were horrible. Then once I go tthem trying things and they would go out with their parents and try things, their parents would call me asking what I had done to their children.

Just read an interesting article in Salon today - this Chinese lady wrote a book about growing up Chinese in white bread America. Her dad's theory wasn't to force the kids to eat a serving of something but instead had a rule to eat one bite of a dish at three different times. The theory was that by the fourth time your tastebuds had acquired an appreciate for the taste and texture of the new food that way. I think that might be a better way and might work.

I have the same rule at our house...

you must try one taste, then if you do not like it, you may fix something else for yourself for dinner. It works pretty well. Lots of times I will hear, "mmmmm, that tastes pretty good" and other times "yuck!". I used to serve egg salad sandwiches, until I discovered how much better everyone loved deviled egg sandwiches. (smile) It works for me.

My son hated fish, but he loved shrimp, so I never told him that shrimp was

fish- When he was about 9, my brother took him to a very fancy fish restaraunt and cracked up when he was told by my son that "Shrimp ISN'T FISH!!!"

BTW, the fish hater is now 26 and his favorite food in the whole world is SUSHI!!!!!!!
