Barb, I'll warn you that I made onion soup with sweet onions once and it

was revoltingly sweet. Like trying to eat a big bowl of maple syrup, and I think I remember the same thing happened to someone else here too.

 
That would probably be me. I didn't even think about it when I used

them and sure won't ever do it again!

 
also, we found the smell of cooking those onions to be overwhelming for such a long time

and I dearly love the smell of onions cooking on the stovetop.

 
I used 4 large onions to 1 Videlia for French Onion soup and the caramelization

worked fine. Julia added sugar during this process, but I left that out. I'd use this ratio again.
