I need recommendations for a waffle maker. I assume I can't use the old-fashioned cast iron ones,

since I don't have a gas stovetop - I'm stuck with electric. The reviews on Amazon for the self-heating ones don't sound too encouraging - very mixed. So what do you all recommend?

I have the All-Clad classic round waffle maker. We love it and use it several times a month...

I prefer round waffles to Belgian style, and I have really enjoyed this model.

My only complaint is that with only one iron, it can go a little slow to make a whole bowl of batter. I would love to have a second waffle iron, so I could double up.

I also like that this model has a footed base and locks the lid in place so I can store it standing up right.

Good luck.

I use a Nordic Ware Belgian Waffler iron on my electric stove.

I oil both sides and preheat it on the large burner of the electric stove. The burner has seven settings and I set it 2/3 of the way between the 2 and 3. When the built-in thermometers reach between the two o's in cook, it is hot ready for batter. I cook it on the first side for about 30 seconds than flip it to the second side. After about 6 minutes I flip it back to the first side. The iron usually stops steaming in about 10 minutes of baking. I carefully lift each side to be sure it is through baking. Then open and enjoy.

I bought my waffle makes at a thrift shop about 15 years ago. . .

an electric, square, honkin' big thing; couldn't tell you what brand it is. I think it has some sort of non-stick coating on it.

As long as I pre-heat plenty and my batter has plenty of fat in it, I do not have to pre-oil/greast it and my waffler does not stick.

When I got my waffle iron, I saw several of the same sort--maybe they stuck a lot for other people and they dumped them.

Try a thrift store? And self heating does work, with appropriate heating time and proper batter. . .

I have an electric waffel maker for Nordic waffels, not belgian waffels.

I love mine. It's a double waffle maker so it goes twice as fast. (We are big on waffels in this hosue smileys/wink.gif

I have a Villaware multi purpose waffler, griddle, panini maker.

It has interchangeable grates--flat griddle grates reverse to ribbed panini/grill grates and separate waffle iron grates. The only downside is that there isn't a specific temperature, just low, med, high. Takes about 6-8 minutes for 4 waffles to cook--is that a long time? I have no prior experience with waffle irons. At least they don't stick (after spraying smileys/smile.gif

cheezz--That is HYSTERICAL. I'm in the same boat except it's been 17 yrs later--no need to plug in!
