The benchmark snowflake post that I remember was Peggy Weavers. Here's a post on whatscookingamerica
Our post was either Gails or Finer Kitchen...it was LONG ago and she had linked the detailed post from her own personal website (not whatscookingamerica). Peggy's photo was a smiling person holding onto a ferret. I have hard copies of that post, but haven't tried searching for it.
I think on that post she used Penny's recipe which is different from the one now posted on wca site.
but of course with the rusual state of Photobucket, they aren't displaying. You can go to photobucket website using the URL to see them I believe when PB is actually working:
There is a photo on FB that I think you'll probably be able to reach. Our snowflake cutters are finely detailed and this recipe preserves every indentation and finely cut tip. Hopefully this will work.
I think there are a lot of recipes out there that will work to hold shape (sugar cookie with leavening? I don't think so.). But from my experience: well chilled dough to roll, and then freeze the cutouts before baking allows them to set in the oven before anyone's thinking about expanding.
And you can use this trick to your advantage. Nothing preventing you from mixing, rolling, cutting, and freezing the cutouts now to bake in December.
