Good morning Michael. I'll answer this since it's still way too early in host-land.
(edit by Marilyn to remove personal information)
Paul has inserted ads as a way to fund updating the site. As of our email yesterday, the ads had generated a whopping $51.
So...well, that's not going to cut it.
Paul is dealing with really old & out-dated code that takes much longer to trouble-shoot than newer code would. Mimi & Paul spent funds YEARS ago in an attempt to update our site to a new format with current code. The new prototype didn't go over well with our users and so they reverted back to the old code.
As I said before, that's not going to cut it anymore.
Paul is now looking at "customizing existing software. So the cost of the software license that I am working with for this is only $100/yr. But the customization is what takes up time/resources. Then if I need support from the software developer that can be costly too. It can quickly escalate from a few hundred to a few thousand dollars. They want funding to do the import for me."
Back to Marilyn: I would like to ask the users here to help contribute to an startup fund of $1,000 - $1,500 to help Paul initiate his customization process. Several folks have already sent him donations for which he is very grateful.
I love this site more than any on the Internet. It's been a source of friendship, camaraderie, support and at least ten 4" binders full of recipes. I would hate to lose it and all of you because of outdated code. I'm already dealing with outdated knee caps. I'd like to help Paul fix this one while we still can.
