I see recipes using baby corn, and I am interested in them, however

I have never eaten baby corn that I thought was worth buying. I have never looked for it in the markets so don't know if they are canned or frozen. The Pioneer Woman has a cute video for a veggie stir-fry today that looks great, it calls for baby corn. I think I will use fresh corn.

Does anyone have a brand of baby corn they love, which is actually tasty?

These little immature ears are what I look for when buying fresh corn--DH in particular

loves them.

If those taste like the icky versions in Chinese restaurants, I'd skip it. I always ask

for them to leave those out...they have some off-preservative taste to me.

I thought the one Karen was discussing is fresh-grown, like baby carrots.

PW is using the canned baby corn and I always get it at an Asian

store. They are always crisp and yummy so I'm gonna say Marilyn's taste buds are acting up on her again. ;0)

Humm....maybe not, like I stated, I have never tasted any baby corn that I thought worthy of buying,

I had no idea one could pick corn in the baby stages, as I did not think it had kernels at that point. Learned something new with the Food 52 post. If I cannot find fresh baby corn, I will use grilled corn on the cob and cut it off to put into my stir-fry. I found out that by using a very sharp paring knife and doing it slow, it comes off in chunks and will stay in chunks if you handle it carefully. I could add it at the end of cooking the dish, like a garnish on top!

Nah, not the tastebuds; some canned corn tastes pretty "tinny". This can be helped by. . .

draining the can and then soaking the corn in cold water, then drain well before using.. Not perfect, but it helps

Neither Here Nor There But

Kids just love these tiny little ears of corn. They'll eat almost anything if they find these in it. They are fun. Tasteless but fun !

OK then, I am so not into food which has no flavor. I love lots of flavor!

The grower I contacted chose not to grow corn this year, and when she checked with her CSA folks, none of them had corn either. She did not say why they were not growing it., but I suspect it might have something to do with the seeds, and the genetically modified seeds. I know this grower works off of of their own seeds.

She told me last Saturday that there would be no more of their fresh garlic at the market as they had to save the rest for seed garlic. She said when she checked prices of seed garlic they wanted more money for them than she was selling her garlic heads for at the market. Maybe it was the same for the corn.

I LOVED to give our grands these--they thought they were so neat!!

Remember Tom Hanks in Big, eating the kernels off the little cob? LOL
