I survived the wedding cake... first one I've made in 20 years...

Looks great! I know the feeling - I did the same thing last year...

the first one I had done in almost 29 years and for an indecisive bride that I didn't even know. My nerves were a WRECK by the time I finished. I also wound up coordinating the whole reception - food, layout, flowers, everything.

THANKS everyone.... the frosting I ended up using -

Thanks to my sis who does this more often that I do, gave me her buttercream version which tastes wonderful. It is basically half butter, half cream cheese, vanilla, and powdered sugar to the consistency you want. I did:
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup cream cheese
1 tsp. vanilla
4 cups confectioners sugar
1/2 tsp. Wilton white-white

The intertwining hearts were copied from the bride's invitations. To get the hearts glossy, I did a lot of experimenting with recipes and proportions and came up with:
2 parts buttercream recipe above, to 1-1/2 parts marshmallow creme (in the jar). It gave it a nice shiny look, and just soft enough to "round out" the piping.

Don't know why you say that....

I am just now going for my culinary arts degree and I taught myself how to do cakes. What is is they say about experts - anyone with a brief case 20 miles from home????

Seriously, your cake looks great!

I baked:
12" with 6"
10" with 8"

I made single batches of mix so I wouldn't have leftovers, and decided not to use the original recipe I had planned on which had egg whites whipped into the batter -- the whites deflated on sitting, which caused the heavy batter. Went with basic yellow cake instead.
