I was just handed one of those school fund raising catalogs, and in there is a silicone mat for the

bottom of your oven. does anyone have one of these? Seems too good to be true for oven spill cleanups.

I have a silicone or teflon sheet for the bottom of the oven.

It's wonderful for catching spills and cleans up easily. It's so much easier than cleaning the oven.
We put a new oven in our cottage and the element is below the bottom of the oven. You can't use one of these sheets on the bottom of an oven if the sheet is above the element, because it blocks the heat and the element can be damaged. You can, however, put it on the bottom shelf which allows air flow above the element.
A friend of mine ordered one of these from a mail order catalog, but I found them at Bed Bath and Beyond.

I have a gas oven. would putting it on the bottom, not covering the vent holes, keep it from

heating properly?

Not sure about gas. The sheet can be placed under the elements of an electric oven,

or on the bottom shelf if the element is under the floor of the oven. Guess it would depend where the burner is located. If you could put it below the burner in your oven, and not cover the vent holes, I would think it would be ok. Otherwise you could still put it on the bottom shelf where it would still be below the food that might drip.
