I wasn't paying attention and bought chewy (as opposed to flaky) halva

Aside from eating spoonfuls, what do I do with it? It is the consistency of very soft gooey fondant.

I could make small balls and dip in chocolate, but that idea isn't grabbing me.

I've never seen a chewy version. We used to have the bars often--loved the chocolate covered ones.

Thanks. I never knew there was such a thing either, but it says so right on the tub.

Since the ice cream calls for chopped tI think that is the "regular" kind. I'll have to get creative.

Searches seem to indicate it's more Indian than Middle Eastern. I find it as Bombay chewy halva.

but it's mostly just eaten as is.

I was never a fan, but this post brought up so many fun memories of my pop-pop. So much so, that I

called my mom and sister last night. He LOVED his halva. I really forgot about it until this post. I used to search for it to bring it to him when I was in college. My mom then chimed in with renewed memories how he enjoyed marzipan.

I went to bed with a big smile of some memories that were forgotten

I love memories like that

When I was a tween/teenager there was an ashram in our small Texas college town that supported itself with a bakery and restaurant. Very exotic fare and fancy breads and pastries for the times and place. I adored it and they had huge blocks of bulk halvah, several different kinds, that you bought by weight. It was one of my favorite things there.

One of my only memories of my Dad's father who died when I was five

was that he always gave us pennies to buy Tootsie Rolls when we went to the store with our granny.
