I would like to publicly thank (Marilyn and Music City Missy) for

...getting me started on the "Cookie Drop". Without her taking the point on sending boxes to our troops, I probably would have never gotten started doing so.

My wife's nephew has not received his orders yet, but he is stationed at Fort Hood and is very likely to be headed to Afganistan this spring. His unit is involved with support of combat troops whenever they are deployed, so his deployment is a high probability.

We have sent packages to him before when he's been in Iraq, and he tells us stories about how the men react when they get something from home, even from strangers. It's amazing.

Thank you also to Music City Missy for recommending "A Soldier's Wish List". We were paired up with a soldier at Christmas and we plan to send him more packages while he is in Afganistan. I know there are other websites that do a good job as well. Thanks Missy!

FRUSTRATION!!! I know the thread is on this current page about sending boxes to troops...

but for the life of me I can't find it!! I know we've done these before and can't find that thread, either... can we put "packages to the troops" thread in 'Great Threads'?

Thanks for directing me!

cheezz, I think things may have changed since we sent the packages. I think you need a "sponsor" to

send things over. Do you have a military base nearby, or a USO? they can link you up with a group for sending stuff.

after using this link with a group I belong to here, have used it on my own

the last couple of years.
you can pick a person, choose Army, Navy, etc. and home state for them???
you also get e-mails when your guy or gal has change in contact info.
I got some great thank yous from the first time
And several of them kept in touch.. Hopefully they are all home safe!

So I need to pick another, I like to send stuff at times other than holidays.this is a big website with tons on info--grab a cup or glass and go over it--
