Ice Cream by mail? Cheap sources? Found one..any others?

Yes, I know ice cream via mail sounds weird. However, mom is in asst living in So Cal (Long Beach) and I'm in N Cal. (My sister is there but I want to do this for mom.)

The one thing she misses is being able to eat ice cream every night plus putting on some weight would be a good thing. So I'm going to send her a small freezer and a shipment of ice cream every month. Naturally it is $$$$$ to ship ice cream but wondered if anyone had a source. I found this site via Ben & Jerry's and they look to have good brands but pricey so thought I'd at least ask. smileys/smile.gif

Smacks head! -- YES why didn't I think of that?!

See? That's why I always ask...you keep me sane sometimes I swear.

Thanks Pat!

I know that Blue Bunny ice cream will ship as my neighbor received a shipment in Indiana from

her son in Washington, D.C.

You might try Schwan's. They deliver to my door every 2 weeks here in Indiana. I am an ice cream lover, and my husband & I go through a gallon a week of the various flavors. It's good and not outrateously expensive.

If you go their web site (www.schwans.com) and click on "Live Help" you can initiate a 2-way chat with a Schwan's rep. I asked if they shipped ice cream to/in California, and the rep wanted me to input the zip code so that's as far as I got.

I also called Ritter's Ice Cream Custard hotline, and the gal told me to call Chuck Moore @ 317.213.9712 to inquire about shipments going to California. IMHO, this is the BEST and richest ice cream hereabouts in Indiana.

I've had Ritter's deliver ice cream to my mom here in town (she lives in a local nursing home) as a birthday surprise. Worked out great!

Hope some of this info will help you! Wigs

Scwann's, but that might be a local thing here. Could you check such

local sources there, in So. Cal? I'm sure they must have something similar. Schwann's comes around every Thursday and delivers pre-orders, door-to-door. Kinda like a grown-up Skippy man! It's not cheap, but those types of things never are.

Grater's ships out of Cincinnati...

Uh, that should say "Graeter's"

This is Oprah's favorite ice cream and she has it shipped to Chicago.

Not cheap, but this is just about the best commercial ice cream you can buy.

It's individually made in small 2-gallon batches using "French Pot" ice cream makers.

The chocolae chip flavors have huge chunks of chocolate in them. They pour the melted bittersweet chocolate into the pot at the end of processing and sometimes one finds "candy bar-sized" chunks in the ice cream.

I like the large chocolate chunks.

Penn State used to have those in their Chocolate Chip Mint, but now they've gone to flakes, which I don't like as much.

Ok, these are not cheap, but they are fantastic, if you happen to see them. smileys/smile.gif

When I was test-driving a job at a food website, we sampled two brands of ice cream and sorbet. (The first is sorbet.)

Silver Moon is excellent stuff--they all have some kind of liqueur, though. I tried Mango Champagne Sorbet and wanted to marry it.

Jeni's Ice Cream is seasonally influenced, from Ohio. Wonderful flavor. But the price is prohibitive; I guess they're selling mostly to restaurants, although you can order online as an individual.

Just FYI. smileys/smile.gif

Silver Moon Desserts Five pints for $48, plus shipping.

Jeni's Ice Creams Nine pints for (gasp) $85 (and $30 shipping to CA).

These are great -- thanks all! Mom will love 'em

I will put some of these into the Mom ice cream rotation. Not that she will remember enough these days to give me feedback, but I'm sure they will make her truly happy in the moment -- and that's what it's all about.

Thanks so much -- you are all awesome!

PS I just gained 20 lbs reading some of these places yummy sounding ice cream flavors.
