My neighbor just asked me if I want to make something again for their fundraiser gala on St Patrick’s day (its a community theater in a upper class town).

- it will be auctioned to highest bidder

- needs to feed 10

- they do NOT want it to be chocolate

Any ideas?

(Last year I made a 3 layer chocolate cake w Swiss meringue in a watercolor design/gold leaf icing decorated with real flowers and shooting fondant stars.)

I prepared a large gift basket of several types of baked goods for a silent auction a few...

...years back.

The idea was, whoever put in the highest bid went home with the basket AND a promise to bake one item a month for them in the coming school year. It worked because the bidders were mostly parents from the school the boys attended.

The centerpiece was a glazed lemon loaf. It shimmered beautifully and was surrounded by a Marble Cake, blueberry muffins with sugary tops that glistened and Chocolate Crinkles. The President of the PTA was the high bidder and we really enjoyed baking for her for the coming year. Most of the stuff was delivered to the school when she had a monthly board meeting.

Just an idea...

My ego was boosted when the auction catalog came out. My offering was listed right next to...

...an offering from one of the most prominent chefs in the Valley.

Woo hoo!

HOw about a Lane cake or Japanese fruit cake. They are sort of "historic"

and are spectacular cakes.

"Millionaire Triffle"

with fruits, caramel/Golden syrup, ladyfingers, lots of whipped cream topped with edible gold flakes, in a trifle bowl. Use kiwi for St. Patrick's green. Colleen

Leaning towards this royal wedding lemon and Elderflower cake. Anyone taste elderflower?

Because mirror glazes scare me and I won’t be able to get my plates/dish back. Not to mention I have a tree *loaded* with Meyer lemons right now, I’m thinking of making this copycat recipe of Harry and Megan’s royal wedding cake which is lemon and elderflower, but I have no idea what elderflower tastes like. Heck, though if it’s good enough for them maybe it will interest a table to bid as it’s dessert to eat that night.

There will be both professional donated desserts and some homemade like mine. I have to say I was a bit disappointed last year when the winning bid went to some company that makes ice cream sandwiches. Part of me feels like, fine here’s a two dollar cake mix cake, but of course it’s me, so I won’t.
