When it's just us, I serve the salad by itself since it's pretty much a complete meal, but we're having a few friends over, and I feel like there should be something else on the table. I'm drawing a blank, any ideas? There will be 6 or 8 pretty adventureous adults, and 5 or 6 young kids, also mostly good eaters (once I made a blended tortilla soup for this crowd which came out a bit spicier than I meant, and the kids chowed down, scooping it with chips)

TIA!

How funny, Jada- I just signed on because I'm having a few friends over for Tarragon Chicken Salad

and I'm looking for ideas for "serve withs" too!

soup-egg drop or hot and sour, dim sum or egg rolls -when the girls

in my office pick up the chinese chicken salad they just HAVE to have an egg roll on the side.

Maybe just a nice bread or croissant? Keep it simple? More ideas in side...

Garlic Knots
Chinese Steamed Buns
Angel Biscuits
Chiabatta Bread
Whole Wheat Tortilla/Wraps
Focaccia

put out dishes of the chow mein noodles in a can - kids LOVE those

(me too). Do you serve it with the fried rice noodles or fried wonton strips?

how about serving a cold apple soup with it?

Cold Apple Soup

4 large apples, peeled, cored, and cut into a large dice
6 ounces white wine
1 ounce apple juice 2 ounces sugar
1/2 cinnamon stick 2 ounces sour cream
2 ounces heavy cream Lemon juice to taste

Bring apples, wine, apple juice, sugar and cinnamon stick to a boil. Immediately reduce heat and simmer until apples are soft, about 20 minutes. Discard cinnamon.
In batches, puree soup well in a blender, transferring each puréed batch to a new pot. Whisk sour cream and heavy cream together and stir it into soup.

Check for consistency and sweetness: if soup is too thick, thin with a little more apple juice or water. Which one you use will be determined by sweetness. If soup tastes sweet enough for your taste and needs some thinning, than obviously use some water.
Add a few drops lemon juice to taste. Chill soup thoroughly and serve.

Pot Stickers? No, I don't make them, I buy Shrimp Goyza at Trader Joes.....

Amazing, you don't even have to defrost them first. Just brown in a pan with a little oil, add a dribble of water and cover. By the time you find the soy sauce in your cupboard, they're done.

Joe, have you tried the LingLing dumplings from Costco?

We're addicted. We like them even better than the pot stickers from Trader Joe's (which are very good).

Thanks for all the great ideas! Have LingLing dumplings in the freezer, sounds perfect for this time
