Ideas on Buttercream cake that needs to sit in the car???

I've been asked to make/bring a cake (it has buttercream icing) to serve after a funeral tomorrow. However, I'll be at the church service first and the weather is expected to be in the low 80's.

I'm worried the cake will melt -- any ideas on transporting it?

if it's in a cake taker, I would freeze 2 blocks of ice in round cakepans, then

in a white plastic garbage bag, put a round of ice, the cake taker on top and then another round of ice on top of the cake taker, wrap it up well and put it in a cooler.

costco has shopping bags

(the eco-friendly kind to re-use) made for frozen goods. They have a designer "rachel ray" version and a generic. We use these for transporting frozen goods and they work well. They come in very large sizes too so you could put the cake in some sort of protective container and put that within the bag. If you're not a Costco member, Wal-Mart or Target should have some variation of it. Should do you for a couple of hours at least. You could throw an ice pack in there for good measure. If you don't have one freeze a couple of ziplock bags (partially full).

If all this is too much you could put the frosting in a container in a small ice chest & frost the

cake when you get there if you will have a place to do it (and if you're not doing anything fancy.) I'm just thinking of my semi-melted wedding cake my grandmother & I made that was transported 60 miles from her house on an early June day.

Here is what I ended up doing...

First of all I think I tossed my cake taker somehow. I had a great one that folded flat so bought this last minute (see link). Turns out this thing is HUGE. So I flipped it upside down, put blue ice in it and a platter over the top that I set my cake/plate on. I stuck all that in a laundry baskest in the trunk, laid one of those keep cold bags over the top along with a blanket.

Worked fine except later I found water leaked through the upside down handles - thank goodness for the plastic laundry carrier.

Thanks for all the ideas/advice!
