If I take a 2-layer 9 inch cake and split it to 4-layers how many do you think it will feed?

I'm trying to figure out how many cupcakes I'll need in addition to the 2 cakes (the last RSVP count I got was 50, but I was told she needs to update me). I was thinking if I make it 4 layers it might feed more. Gawd only knows how much SMBC I'm going to need to make.

I think the higher the cake, the more difficult it will be to slice nicely.

One 2-layer cake per birthday person and a cupcake per person sounds about right. Four dozen should be fine, but 5 dozen will cover the bases with breathing room.

I agree totally. Slicing a 4 layer cake will be a nightmare and you will get no more slices from it.

Instead of cupcakes you could make sheet cakes and cut into squares.

Ok, I'll make them 3 full layers - but, wait each kids gets a whole cake?

I think 2 layer cakes don't look festive enough. I was going to split the layers to get some height, but I'll just make the twin 9-inch cakes 3 layers. I don't think everyone will eat dessert, and there will be kids, so betting those moms will give them a cupcake.

So you think 4 dozen, plus the two cakes will do for 50 people?

How about three six-inch pans to build two 3-layer versions from that...for more effect.

Let the birthday kids and immediate family have slices...while each guest get his/her OWN cupcake.

That way the cake wouldn't need to have too many slices taken out of it.

I think 20 too if 3 layers. I am AWAYS being told to "Cut Me A Small Slice"

and I totally get it - I ask for them same!
