It was a little time consuming, but if the end product is worth it, I don't mind.

The recipe doesn't explain what 2 cups of sugar rubbed with 1 Tbsp lemon zest means. It seems it's a Dorie Greenspan technique where you rub the sugar and lemon zest together with your fingertips until the sugar is moist, grainy and the fragrance of lemon is strong.

I rank this up with Meryl's Orange Butter Cake.

I split this in half and took it to two events and everyone enjoyed it, and the bakers wanted the recipe.
