If you're in the market for a "little" food processor, this one ROCKS! (and @ $16.95, affordable!)

It's the Black & Decker EHC650 3-Cup Chopper.

I bought myself one of these a few months back and it's just the handiest thing. I've always hand chopped or minced small amounts but sometimes, you need something with a little more "oomph."

I'd guess about now you're thinking the same thing I thought: "Hey, I've GOT a Cuisinart for the big jobs, a regular blender for the juicy ones, a hand-blender for small amounts and I can hand chop or mix anything else. Why do I need another gadget?"

Well, today I chopped 3 carrots in 15 seconds for a risotto, then blended up 3/4 cup of Honey-Chipotle-Lime BBQ sauce for a Tri-Tip. Would have taken a while by hand or been too small an amount to process properly in one of the larger appliances. This chopper is ergonomic and couldn't be simpler to use or clean.

It's not like I get a piece of this action, in fact I believe it's the first unsolicited product I've recommended but when we stumble upon things our fellow foodiacs might use, there's an obligation to share.

And for $16.95, it's worth checking out.

I have a couple of questions

When chopping onions, celery, how much prior chopping do you have to do before putting into the unit?

Can the part that holds the food to be chopped be rinsed out under the kitchen faucet?

Depends on the size of the onion/celery and how fine you want it. Usually eighths will do. Does a

terrific job with bread and cracker crumbs as well as one or two garlic cloves, jalapenos, olives, etc.

I assume by "the part that holds the food to be chopped" you mean the plastic container the motor sits on. The gear that drives the (removable) blade is attached to the motor which sits above the bowl so, yes it's washable and you can also use the "non-slip" base as a cover in case you want to store something for later. Hope that helps.

Have you chopped nuts using this? (I did re-type the question, knowing who I was asking smileys/wink.gif

Originally I had "done nuts" LOL smileys/wink.gif
I haven't come across a good nut chopper yet.
I threw out the Oxo I had, mini-cuisinart pulverizes them. ugh.

Not yet, thank goodness. . . I keep mine as FAR away from whirling blades as humanly possible.

(Good one, huh) I have, however, chopped pecans, almonds and walnuts with it. Works just swell. Remember, you can't ever use more than 3/4-1 cup of stuff but that's where it excels.

nut safety----so important. I have the older B&D small unit, with the slicer too. It actually makes

a single crust pie crust quite well, and shredding smaller amount of cheese is great. chopping nuts is so easy when using the pulse and stop method for more control. I am sad that mine is running out of steam.
