If you've been waiting for a great price on a KA mixer here ie is. $99.

It is a good price, but be aware the 250 W rating may be lower than

what you want, power-wise.

I'd want to confirm that power rating can handle a heavy bread dough.

My sisters bought lower-rated KAs than my mom's and the motor would get really hot when they tried to duplicate her nut-roll dough using the dough hook.

 
Marilyn, I bought a 300 thinking that I would never do dough with it. I'd be curious to know what

wattage your sister's is. I've done dough once, but was very wary of overworking it. It handled it well and didn't seem to get beyond warm. And I love this guy.

 
I have a 250 watt KA and have made more bread...

with it than I care to think about.
I do have to add that my KA mixer is also about 25 or so years old, so may have been made to a higher standard, since Hobart was still producing them at the time.
I only had one instance, while making a huge batch of Nancy Silverton's Raisin Brioche dough, that I thought it was going to give up the ghost. It sounded like it was on it's last legs.
All it needed was a rest, and it has never sounded nasty since then, not even with subsequent batches of the same bread dough.
When making multiple batches of bread in a day, I did need to let the motor cool down between uses, but it always does the job.
If you think you may need a larger than 4.5 quart bowl on a regular basis, then go for the bigger machine. I rarely feel like I need a bigger mixing bowl.

 
I agree with everything Judy has said. I've made all kinds of bread and really never had a problem.

The only time it "strained" was during the torrone recipe. Thought for sure it would die on me but it's still going strong.

 
Marg, they had 250W and the head of the machine would actually get very hot

to the touch. Maybe that's normal?

Mom's was an older model, made by Hobart.
