IKEA Food?

We just had the grand opening of the 1st Ohio Ikea store today and I'm intrigued about all the talk of Swedish food, lingonberries, and meatballs. Anyone have any reviews of, or suggestions on buying or eating food at Ikea?

TIA.

They have a lunch cafeteria, not the usual. We liked the salmon & potato. I thought the apple tart

was a bit dry, but maybe that's how it's supposed to be.

Oh how fun!! I love Ikea, although I have not been there recently. The cafe

offers some fun dishes; including the meatballs with lingonberries and I believe some red potatoes. ((Very reasonable))

In our store, we can also purchase the ingredients to bring home. I have done that also, and it was a fun treat to make at home.

Make sure you check out their chocolates. I believe they have both Toblerone as well as Daik (Sp?). The second is my favorite!! You have to try it!! (And I do not have a sweet tooth!...It is in a red bag)

Have fun there. They have some great prices on some unusual kitchen products!

Barb

I think lots of people snap up their meals while there. I'm looking at one right now...

10 meatballs with fries..$3, posted in their flyer. They often have salmon. Never eaten there but the meals are incredibly cheap.

They have some interesting (some kind of) shrimp packages, can't remember why they were unusual, maybe it was crawdaddies. But they were expensive. The lingonberries seemed expensive too.

Lots of help aren't I.

I like their plastic cutting mats. 3 or so in a pack. Go into the dishwasher and don't ruin good knifes so badly as the hard plastic. If you have places in your house where you can put really cheap bits of lighting, that's a great place to find it. And a great assortment of cannisters. They seem to be expanding in the kitchen line.

Never go to Ikea while hungry. The smell from the cafe will drive you crazy. It's hard enough

to compute the number of modular shelves you need while your stomach is growling.

The meatballs smell better than they taste, IMO, but it's nice comfort food for a very reasonable price. It's handy, since trips to Ikea always end up taking all day.

Quality varies from store to store...

First had lunch at the Ikea in glendale CA-very good. Lunch at one the Chicago area stores--also very good.
Lunch at the Minneapolis Ikea three months ago-horrible. Most of the food was stone cold-not a good way to serve meatballs--the food was slopped all over the plates, and the desserts were flat and underbaked. The cafe manager barely spoke English-she just did not get why we were complaining.

My friend and I were so embarrased-we had brought another friend with us, who had listened to us anticipating lunch.

ditto on the cutting mats and lighting. also good for kitchen utensils that one replaces frequently

I love the woven straw ornaments and little pixie ornaments at Christmas. they make nice package tie-ons. I had the swedish meatball plate at the Seattle Ikea and it was a nice "homey" treat for lunch.

I feel like I'm in a maxe though, and get just a little panicky that I can't find my way out. LOL

The new one in Orlando has arrows on the floor to guide you so

you will go through every department in the place!

Is there any other way out besides going through every dang dept?? good thing I only go about once

a year!! then I don't mind so much

My sister LOVES the new Orlando store!!!

She and the 3 year neph went last week and spent the whole day and had lunch there where he ate (what else?) Swedish Meatballs. Sis said the food is actually very good and very reasonably priced. I love Ikea, I wish we had one closer than the Philly burbs.
