need any info you all can share. Not only ways to use them but storing or extending their life. Like can you freeze guacamole? I doubt but you never know. I love avocado sandwiches with mayo, salt and pepper and we often have a salad of sliced avocado and oranges with Italian dressing. We love them and won't have trouble using them but I'm talking...well have I missed out on avocado jam? LOL TIA

One thing, I think they work better diced than mashed in guac. Sort of a pico de gallo thing.

Congratulations, do you have a tree?

Orchid, we can buyt a tub of Guac from the costco type store here...it is in the freezer....

so I guess one could freeze home made guac....when I have had a chance to eat the bought one the folk add a few bits and bobs like chopped tomato, fresh cilantro. etc...it's Ok with loads of wine.

No, one of the girls in hubbies office has 3 huge trees. I also make my

guac. chunky but can it be frozen?

I make guacamole right before serving, I can't imagine freezing it...

IMO if there are leftovers (which is rare) and it gets refrigerated it doesn't taste as good the next day after having been in the refrigerator.

One way I like avocado, is on toasted bread with butter. Then cut half the avocado in chunks

put on top of toast, and mash a little, leaving some chunks. Sprinkle with coarse salt. This is a delicious breakfast.

Haven't tried it but ran across this:

From the California Avocado Commission:
Storing or Freezing California Avocados
Ripe fruit can be stored in the refrigerator uncut for two to three days.

To store cut fruit, sprinkle it with lemon or lime juice or white vinegar and place it in an air-tight covered container in your refrigerator. Eat within a day or two.

If refrigerated guacamole turns brown during storage, simply discard the top, browned layer.

When you have an abundance of fresh fruit, consider freezing it. Although avocados are not satisfactorily frozen whole or sliced, pureed avocados freeze very well and can be used in salads, sandwiches and dips.
Wash, seed and peel the fruit as described above.
Puree the flesh, adding one tablespoon of lemon juice for each two pureed avocados. Pack the puree into a rigid container, leaving 1 inch of headspace.
Seal and label the containers.
Freeze and use within four to five months.

OK, so it's clear that it's going to be up to me to do the research on this.

This is really Marilyn's area but I will take the bullet for the team...OK, enough DRAMA! It's pretty much assured that I'm going to get a bunch of avocado. I will share with friends, neighbors and co-workers but I intend to slice and freeze, freeze whole and mash and freeze and see what happens. I'll let you know...

PS...seriously...no jam?

Yes, that's what I've found but I don't understand why it apparently

freezes OK when mashed but not whole or sliced.

I made David Liebovitz's Avocado ice cream and it was delish! Smoothest, creamiest I've ever made.
