any of you have a good idea for a *round* cake pan? I was thinking of something Valentine-related, but I guess not necessarily. It can be from a mix - not looking for recipes as much as I am looking for ideas, flavors, easy/catchy decorating, etc.

Cakes and pies sell well - in fact, it could be a tart/pie I guess. TIA!

No, just round and 2 inches tall. I just bought a package of disposable ones

yesterday because I don't want to take it out of the pan before we sell it, and I happened to see these round, aluminum ones.

I kind of wanted to make a pie - oh maybe I should've gotten the disposable pie pans instead! I'm open to suggestions on what to make - cake or pie, kind of Valentine-themed if possible.

No cheesecakes, what is what comes to mind - too expensive to make!

How about red velvet cake with white/coconut frosting? more inside...

You know you can make a heart-shaped cake with an 8" round and an 8" square. After you bake them, turn the square 1/4 turn so it's a diamond shape. Cut the round in half and position each half on the top right and top left of the diamond.

Blackberry Wine Cake -- this was posted by Gayle and I've made it several times -- everyone just loves it! Be sure and see my notes at the bottom as I skipped the glaze and made a frosting - there's a picture of my cake in the link >

Great idea - seeing that this will probably be eaten by kids (community bake sale), do you

have any suggestions on what I could use to substitute for the wine to give it a similar taste? Maybe cranberry juice?

Thanks again Jane.

D, you had such fun with fondant, why not a simple cake with some roses on top?

You can make/sell two layers from a single box cake mix. Cut a heart shape out of a doily and sprinkle powdered sugar onto the surface to make a heart design. Then lay a few fondant rosebuds to top, with chocolate leaves? Those can both be made ahead of time.

There are a bunch of Youtubes on making fondant roses...I've added a link with photos.

Peggy Porschen (Pretty Party Cakes) shows how to make a heart-shaped cupcake from a round foil

cupcake liner.

Bake cupcake as usual, then holding hands parallel to the table-top with thumbs slightly overlapping each other and index fingertip touching each other (if you try that now, you'll see you're making an upside-down heart with your hands), gently press the warm cupcake and the foil will mold to the shape of your hands.

Otherwise, this link has you crimp the foil liners BEFORE baking. I'm sure either one will work and the "BEFORE" version might give crisper edges.

But she doesn't show any picutres showing a toothpick... you just use it to make the rose, not

in the final product, right? The strength of the fodant itself would hold it together once formed, I think.

you can make a heart from a square pan and round pan

cut the round in half and place halves along 2 sides of the square. trim as needed, frost and tada, a heart.

Thanks for the idea - that would be different from the same old, same old cookies and brownies

that never sell... and not even cupcakes do well. They end up giving them away to the kids at the end. But cakes and pies always go quickly.

Thanks for the tip, Ang.
