In the interest of menus and as Joe says, enjoying your own party..2 menus

First menu...I had my cubs over for their finally camp on Sat. night (yes, we pitched a tent in my garden...house off-limits, 10 kids and 2 adults...I, in my dotage, slept in the middle of the tent, on a blow-up mattress, 4 girls on one side, 4 boys on the other...finally they settled by mid-night and of course were up by 6 am...)we went to the beach first and then had "brunch" over the open fire...rough camping...(I wanted to use my outdoor kitchen but that too was off limits!)

The image is of the 'rough camp fire'

apples, bananas,

fresh fruit juices,

toasted buns, baguette

bacon, eggs, baked beans, (3 eggs fell into the fire)

toasted marshmallows in Marie biscuits

(Ohh, I could have done with 'champers and OJ')

They were gone by noon and so I started on the "braai meal" for 10 friends that evening....

Such a different meal, LOL!

Starters:

. Crudites with hummus

. Pizza on the fire...this worked OK but I still have a long way to go.

I used bought French pizza dough and made basil pesto, cooked shrimp and parmesan cheese. There wasn't enough, they devoured it.

We tried new white wines to us with this.....

. Serame, a sauvignon 2005...(I don't really go for sauvignon)

. Petit Bourgeois, sauvignon 2004...(I quite liked this)

Hey, but when you are enjoying your own parties you drink it all!

Main

The MOST tender and wonderful grilled

. Lamb Tenderlions marinated in Morroccan spices.

. Warmed pitas.

. Tatziki.

. Shredded lettuce, mache, flat leaf parsley, simple vinaigrette.

. Cous cous with pine nuts, basil, lemon juice.

. Sweet potatoes (orange), oven roasted with garlic cloves, red onion wedges, rosemary, lemon juice.

. Grilled eggplant marinated in evoo and white balsamic.

. Fire roasted red peppers (still very crunchy)

We like rose wines so had

. Lacoste and Cote de Provence

. Cheeses, Brie, Camebert, Port Salut and fresh figs

. Baklava (bought), chocolate ice cream, merangues

A simple and delicious menu...'specially after the "brunch", Lol!

What a day! I bet that first glass of Cote de Provence rose never tasted so good. Any pics of

you and the "cubs?"

Keep the rose on ice, I'm on my way.

You are the undisputed Queen of outdoor cooking, Joanie....what a weekend!

It all sounds delicious- I can just taste those lamb tenderloins especially.

Wow- you were brave to sleep out in a tent with all those kids. Then you got up and cooked them breakfast. Then, after they left you started on the big meal for friends- you must be exhausted!
Your evening menu is so creative and I bet your friends were thrilled at the results. I hope you had time to enjoy it yourself. I only wish I could have been there to taste that delicious meal.

And an energetic one. Curious Joanie...do you buy the French pizza dough there?

What brand is it? Marie something? Is it rolled on parchment into a perfect round? As I said to Joe, up above, our local supermarket chain had just started producing a puff pastry like the French version. Now if I could get them to do the same pizza dough, I'd be set.

Hey Marg....

I did not look at the brand name...I was asking for an American one and they gave me this...I'll check the name another time...also wrapped the same way are all the pastry doughs for all kinds of tarts etc...all French. I've never really worked out which is which as I use tried and true usually but I am keen to try their pate brisee one.

LOL Joe...

somewhere along the way I'll post one (but I break the camera when it's pointed to me!)

The evening before we also did a BBQ for them at (my garden) the campsite. Hamburgers, buns, SA boerewors, salad which I sent them to pick (herbs, cherry tomatoes)etc from the garden...there isn't much left in this heat but they had fun...also got them to collect some of the eggs for their breakfast brunch the next morning!!!...Not a great supper but then we went to another beach where there were a couple other packs who had organized a roaring CampFire. Here we invested about 10 cubs....and did marsmallows over those coals. They had a ball!!!

Okay. It sounds like the same. rolled into a 'tube' sort of box. The pate brisee is good too but

the French butter becomes cheesy-flavoured pretty quickly.

I love the pizza dough as it bakes so thin & is so consistent. Sure wish I could get them here. Although, I don't want to run out of reasons to flit off to France.

I still have some frozen...Ranout, Roulet and Marie are the 3 brands.

one of the R brand's seems right......

I'll LOOK next time. I was on the camping shopping spree and not really into the evening at the time I was in the s'marche...I'm usually pretty observant but on occassions like this where I don't take it in..and 2'ce, in this case...I really do think I am loosing it.
I'm hot and fed up with the construction noise going on and so I've just eaten the last 3 merangues and 7 chocolate covered nuts....now I'm even more annoyed at myself as I really am trying to low-carb...I'm going to 'flounce' off somewhere peaceful for a bit.....(like in my airconditioned car, although where-ever I go I just have to get out into this heat again) IS it me or is it global warming ???

Marg...I found these....

Herta, Belle France and Roulet. The pizza dough I tried was infact the Herta, the pate brisee I want to try is Belle France. I tried the Roulet pate brisee, before, it was OK.
