I was a little concerned about the bean and tomato puree as it was a weird color and consistency but it cooked down into a beautiful broth. I used vegetable broth instead of water, and sprinkled some cheese over my toddler's portion.
I used the butternut squash instead of carrots and the celery instead of fennel (my husband was doing the shopping and couldn't find fennel). I wish I'd remembered to throw a parm rind in; oh, well, next time.
