Indian food for book club...

I host our fall book club and we're reading White Tiger, a novel set in India. Any ideas for tasty Indian appetizers or bite sized sweets? Even a specialty drink? I have zero recipes for this cuisine (picky dh categorizes any Indian food as monkey vomit...lovely), so I need a lot of help!!

Thank you!!!

Mango lassi is a delicious drink (basically mango and yogurt), and samosas are great appetizers.

Ginger Lime or Lemon Drink - this is from Vij's restaurant in Vancouver - I highly vouch for it smileys/smile.gif

1/2 cup fresh lemon or lime juice
1/4 cup fresh ginger juice (food process, or juicer)
5 or so TBSP of sugar, to taste (raw sugar would be good here)

Stir together until the sugar has dissolved.

sparkling water (like pellegrino)

Place ~ 1 ounce of the syrup in a glass; fill with sparkling water & ice. Enjoy!

I LOVE it - it's a summer staple. I use this recipe, which I think is the same as what Meryl posted:

I've made this several times and it really is fabulous. I use fresh ground cardomom seeds, though, as the taste is just out-of-this-world! You'll only need about 1/2 tsp. of fresh crushed seed.

The White Tiger is one of my favorite books! smileys/smile.gif. I second the idea about samosas.

They can be made ahead and tastes great.
