Instant Mashed Potato Flakes

The rye bread recipe I tried (very good) called for 3 tablespoons of instant potato flakes. So now I have a box of these and was wondering if anybody has made mashed potatoes from them. How are they? The brand is Idahoan.

Thanks

I've not used them for mashed potatoes in eons

but I've seen a bunch of places where folks have used them to coat "oven fried" foods.

Might be worth searching for uses for potato flakes.

Thanks!! I'm going to do some turkey in mushroom gravy and will try mashed potatoes.

I'm sure I'll have lots left to coat pork cutlets with.

I have used them as Judy says as a coting for fish--dip in butter and then flakes and then

saute. It is really good. We particularly liked it with tilapia and salmon.
And I have used them as mashed potatoes long years ago cooking for kids. I used mostly milk for the mixture

Lposted the recipe for potato "sourdough" bread starter a while ago--it makes a wonderful tender bread.

Look for a recipe for Moravian sugar cake using instant potato flakes

I used them recently to thicken my cauliflower soup that came out thinner

than I had hoped. I had an unopened package in the pantry, I don't remember why I bought them, but they did do the trick.

Adding sour cream, a little minced onion or chive and cheese

They are pretty decent all “tarted up.” Used to make them this way years ago for my ex husband.

They keep a long time and are a good addition to lots of bread recipes. They keep old fashioned rolls or white bread nice and soft and moist. If you bake much, experiment with adding them to other recipes.

Instant Potato Flakes Shortage!!!

I recently asked at my local Piggly Wiggly (Southern grocery chain) for instant potatoes and they told me they had run out and didn't know when they would have them. Seems that is one of the pantry staples being stockpiled.
