Pretty sad to see the FoodTV go downhill from what it used to be many years ago. The best chefs/cooks/shows are gone.

now it's mostly competition. I don't "get" it.

 
But, actually I do get it from the network's standpoint - all they care about is entertainment, ie,

high viewership/high ratings. Only a minority of viewers want to learn how to cook/bake - most just want to be "entertained."
