Is anyone else feeling blah about Labor Day? What is everyone making?

I have family coming over later in the afternoon for grilling and croquet, and I really just want to tell them all to stay home. Maybe it's because school started two weeks ago for us, but I am just not in the mood for a big group of people.

Going to BBQ tomorrow, I got dessert...

So making Malted Milk (Ball) Ice Cream, chocolate sauce, and Symphony brownies so folks can build sundaes.

Given I'm off suger right now (dieting) except for a sneak taste of the ice cream - to see if it was any good doncha know - and I can't eat chocolate anymore, I'll sit back and enjoy watching everyone else eat it.

Our youngest son's in-laws are in town with their RV and we are having them for dinner tonight

Appetizers are smoked salmon spread, on cucumber slices and baguette bread.

Marinated and grilled New York steaks, sautéed mushrooms, red/yellow/white/purple potatoes, red/orange bell peppers, fresh garlic, Walla Walla Sweet Onions, chunked, and roasted with evoo, fresh lemon juice. Drizzled with balsamic before serving.

Mesclun salad, Green Grape/Sun Gold/ Red tomatoes with Lemon vinaigrette.

Dessert is Vanilla Bean Ice Cream with fresh golden raspberries, drizzled with chocolate hard sauce.

Not feeling blah, just can't believe it's the end of the summer...

baby back ribs are in my refrigerator with a homemade dry rub, getting ready to grill them tomorrow with a Bobby Flay Mesa barbecue sauce.
Tonight bf is taking me out to dinner!

Not planning on any cooking extravaganza...

I bought a really nice napa cabbage from the Asian grocery and will make a slaw. This will either be for sharing with kids and grands on Monday, or for us to eat for a while...if we don't see the kids.

What I really planned on making this weekend is a bunch of pottery.

A couple of FK sorts have suggested interesting projects, so that's what I'm working on.

(If anyone else has ideas or wants, speak now)

From my experience, the best cure for the blahs is to get choppin' & cooking! I'm not

sure what I'll be making but I always have fun planning on something different and good. However, sometimes simple is just what the doc ordered.

Happy weekend & Labor Day everyone!

We are going to inl-laws' for a backyard picnic and I'm taking a

store-bought cherry pie and fusilli salad. Period. A couple of hours north, so it will be an overnight stay on the river (kids in the tent?). Hoping to get one more last swim in, maybe in their pool.

Enjoy and drive carefully!

bbq'd brisket, but due to low energy i'll do it in the oven with liquid smoke.

prolly some cole slaw and potato salad.

for dessert i keep thinking of my mil(may she rest in peace)'s recipe for bavarian cream. she just mixed together equal volumes of jello and dream whip.

much simpler than my recipe.

A friend said "Come by if you feel like it," not much enthusiams there. I'll bring salad. Yawn.

I hear you, Dawn... I have grill and energy envy of everyone. smileys/wink.gif

Am coming off the end of a cold; haven't seen my husband much this weekend; kept vowing to go to the beach all summer, and now they're closing; etc. etc.

I did make brownies, though. smileys/smile.gif)

Take care! Do something nice for yourself!

I never associated brownies with Labor Day - hmm, sounds like a nice

tradition to start though! ;o)

Awww...I hope you are feeling better soon.

I am feeling a little more enthusiastic, you have to when you know you are having 12 people to feed tomorrow. In-laws are bringing gin and brownies, stepdaughter is bringing a side dish and spareribs, and I will be doing the rest. Burgers, brats, baked beans and something else. It's not very inspired.
