Is there a canned pumpkin shortage?

I had heard that there was going to be a shortage of pumpkins for halloween, but our supply looks to be normal and cost isn't sky high.

However, I am unable to find canned pumpkin. This is very bad since I am supposed to make lunch for some meeting hubby has Wednesday (turkey wraps, apple/pear green salad w/ cranberry vinaigrette and pumpkin brownies) but canned pumpkin is no where to be found. Not so surprising at the base commissary but the grocer in town doesn't have it, either. Just "easy pumpkin pie mix" in a can. Blech.

I'm going to have to venture out to another town, but now I'm curious. Is there a canned pumpkin shortage? Am I going to find it or am I going to have to redo my menu?

Can't find it on line, but what I read is that this years crop will become available within a week

or so.

Because of our isolated locality we often see things missing from the stores

Just because they send them to larger markets. I never know whether it's a real shortage or just "the truck didn't deliver to our area" type of thing.

On a positive note, I took everything out of the pantry and found one lone, small can of pumpkin so I am good for these brownies.

Not on the west coast....

I just came from TJ's and they had a whole end cap full. Plus, fresh carving and sugar pumpkins.

Sadly though after what must be at least 10 yrs they no longer have the canned beef stew. This was one of my staples and with the whole ark we need to be building according to the weather reports for our first rain of the season, it was something I'd planning on stocking up on.

Whole shelves fully stock with pumpkin at Safeway and Lucky stores, in my area. C'mon down (or over,

or up, wherever you are....lol).

Isn't it awesome???!!! I absolutely cannot *wait* for this rain. Keep checking the online radar to

watch it coming in. It's like an event!!

I only hope it doesn't produce the landslides and flooding that's predicted.(

The are saying 7 inches of rain. and 70 mph wind...

in the Santa Cruz mtns...and I'm at the foot of them so I'm offically waiting for floods but I've been in a good area as the creek near me hasn't flooded since they lined it in cement years ago. (Knock on wood!)

I am worried for folks who live up in the mtns especially the areas that burned in the recent fire there. Lots of ash and dead trees likely to come down - and downstream if it turns into the event they are claiming.

Me, I'm mostly just dreading the commute as some of the worst is suppose to hit for both the am/pm peak traffic times tomorrow and I have an early am mtg. Much rather stay in an enjoy the storm from inside the house. I'm with Pat...I too love a good storm -- when I don't have to go out in traffic.

Are you all sealed in tight?

I didn't know that, but now I'm glad I went the do-it-yourself way this year, altho

I was going to mix in some canned pumpkin for color and flavor. Oh well. Maybe it will come in time.

By the way, yes, there must be a pumpking shortage... every stand I've seen this fall has outrageously priced (for here) pumpkins... except for the one that had them ridiculously cheap on Rte. 46! They are mostly gone now though (no, I didn't buy them all ;o)).

we may need to raid your pantry. I have 2 cans in the pantry---I guess I will save them for Nov.
