in a jar the other week and gave it to my mother (she often talks of Grandma's homemade out-of-this-world recipe* for it). She politely said, "It's... good", but I know it isn't like the original.

She says she used to do something with the vegetables overnight (salt them, maybe?), and it contained pearl onions, cauliflower, and little pickles.

Thanks.

Yes, sweet. I got a littl emore information from my mother, who says...

Gram started with tiny cucumbers but I think they must have been pickles, because she said she only soaked them in brine overnight. After the overnight soaking, she combined them with the other vegetables and cooked them in a sauce. Turmeric was in the sauce, she knows, and probably sugar. Hey, maybe they were sweet gerkins. I caguely remember eating this, and the pickles were sweet.

Any ideas? How long would you have to brine cucumebers to make them "pickles"? Much, much longer than overnight I am guessing!

Thanks for any input.
