I have mostly everything I need or can fit in my storage space. What I don't have are things that I might need only on occasion: a stock pot, a double boiler, a vegetable steamer, an extra large roasting pan, a dutch oven (I use clay bakeware). So, I'd love to hear any opinion you may have as to which of these, or any other occasionally used kitchen equipment, serves enough double duty that it is worth owning so I can spend this gift that is burning a hole in my purse.

Items that I use only occasionally, but am glad I have include

Hand held blender
20 cup stainless coffee pot for parties, etc.
second coffee grinder for grinding spices.

Since you mention Dutch oven, I wonder if you have something to do stove-top braising

in. My most useful item is a fairly high (4-6")straight-sided sauteuse pan, T-Fal, with glass lid. It is large enough to hold a roast, and all the trimmings but will also go into the oven. I have 2 sizes but if you have a large family, the bigger one would probably be more useful for you.

I've had the original Braun stick blender for about 20+ years, whenever it came out. I am just now

starting to use it again and am astounding myself the it will beat egg whites and whip cream. When I first used it, I didn't like it. Stoopid me.

This is perfect. I had to google sauteuse, duh, but this is something I can use. Thanks much.

I have cuisinart and use it for everything (except mashed pots-gluey). Great for turnip.

Recipe: I USE MY VEGETABLE /RICE STEAMER TO COOK MEAT

I brown my ground beef this way then rinse then use my hands to crumble. My chicken breasts when making enchilads or chicken ala king or for chicken quesadillas. Sausages too. I don't even have to thaw it. I make stuffed bell peppers this way too, my father showed me. Use any type of bell pepper and hollow out then make 4 incisions at the bottom to drain fluid.
In a bowl mix (raw) ground beef- rice (raw) diced bellpepper, onions, zucchini, carrots (shaved and diced) and spices: salt, pepper and a small can of tomato sauce. Mix together (hands are good, I do) than stuff into bell pepper. Steam for 30 minutes. Trust me the best stuffed bell peppers and soft and so quick and easy

That heart cake pan that Sandi has in the post above would be nice.

I also bought some Pernigotti(sp) cocoa there and it is soooo decadent. Silpats. Silicone pans. A nice new Santuko knife.

A Le Creuset pot

I use it for soups, stews, pasta sauce with meat..Braised chicken..Charlie's Chicken with vinegar..just love this pot!

I purchased mine about twenty years ago, and it still looks brand new. It is one of my favorites, and is a great investment.

Silpats, yes. Always wanted, never bought because seemed extravagant (silly, I know) Thanks.

Again, something I want but never splurged for. I'm so glad I asked for advice. Thanks to all.

Steamer. But I have a black & decker rice steamer and I don't use the rice tray, just the basket

Does anyone else prefer parchment to silpats? I reuse the sheets for the same item & then no cleanin

Actually, I pull out the parchment 90 percent of the time. love it. Why does it cost so darn much.
