not sure of the timing but are there any casual tasty places to eat? There will be 4 of us, is there a Simon something fish place? Someone here seems to remember it is good but it was a long time ago. Someone else suggested the fish tacos at Humpys? Any suggestions?

Thank you!

Simon and Seaforts---still excellent but pricey. most everything can be casual here.

Humpy's is a bar with great food. very crowded. make reservations at Simon's. eating in the bar there is also great and more casual and fabulous view. if the weather is nice, the Snow Goose has a fabulous deck and good food, fish tacos as well. I wish we could have a meet-up. I'll be around! I can PM you my cell number. I know your time will be short. there is an Asian fusion place downtown called Ginger. I havent' been there yet but many friends love it. Where are you staying? area of town might make a difference what I might suggest. Glacier brewhouse and Orso(mediteranean) are downtown and great food. Moose's Tooth for "artisan" pizza---always very crowded---is in midtown. Club Paris downtown for steak. A drive out to Girdwood(Alyeska Ski resort) is about an hour and the Double Musky is a fabulous cajun inspired restaurant in a very old log cabin. just went there last week. no reservations taken, get there early. was featured on FoodTV. Turnagain "Armpit" BBQ is also on that road and is fabulous BBQ. hotdog vendors are downtown with reindeer sausage and other good street eats. We even have an Olive Garden now---heeheehee. My #1 favorite casual place is the Lucky Wishbone. Fried chicken, flown in daily and fresh. over 50 years old. also great burgers. Arctic Roadrunner is a great burger place as well, and has outdoor seating right on Campbell Creek. very casual.

Ang, this was an extremely spur of the moment trip! We have been in the Yukon

all week and took the ferry from Skagway to Juneau (where our friends live) this morning. Weather here is cold, overcast and rainy, typical Juneau weather, so we were in search of more sun. Fairbanks looked better so we made plane reservations and were out the door in minutes! We have never done antrging so spontaneous before! So, we are unsure of our plans. We have a room in Fairbanks for tonight and tomorrow, and that's as far as we have gotten! I would love to meet up if we can, that would be the most fun! I will let you know as we figure things out smileys/smile.gif

Can't thank you enough for all the wonderful information! My friends are so impressed with all your suggestions smileys/smile.gif

Isn't it though! I sitting here in a culinary wasteland, part of contiguous 48 states

and I don't think I could offer 1/4 of those great food suggestions.

Heck, it's even hard to find a consistently good fish house here...and I'm SURROUNDED by water.

(Oops...I just had a fourth-grade flashback with Miss Hensley correcting me: Florida is a peninsula, so there is water on 3 sides.)

my husband will be out of town, so I can be available for something spur of the moment, after work.

or to just take your group picture! I work on Elmendorf AFB, and if anyone is interested in seeing the static display or the base itself, let me know. an easy day trip is to take the Seward Highway out of Anchorage to Portage Glacier and take the boat trip. it's just an hour or so boat ride, but it takes you right up to the glacier and a nice view. good hiking there too. then have dinner on the way back in Girdwood at the Double Musky or even on top of the ski mountain at Seven Glaciers if this weather clears up. You can drive to Whittier now too----the cars share the train tunnel now and it's on the same road as Portage Glacier, just an hour out of Anchorage. I could go on. but I won't. yay.
