daughter the non-cook became distracted (her excuse) in the grocery store and bought 8 heads of garlic because the recipe she was reading on her phone called for 8 cloves. I thought the chicken would be a nice way to use some of it and she will be more apt to make something in the slow cooker. Any other crockpot recipes using lots of garlic and fairly simple ingredients?

It might turn out more like fricassee than baked chicken but how could it be bad?

This is just my brain thinking this could be easy:

Cut up a chicken into 8 pieces. Skin on, bone in. Brown the chicken in a little oil. Put the 40 cloves in the bottom of the slow cooker. Put chicken on top (I'm really tempted to say put some raw rice in with the garlic before putting the chicken on top). Pour over about 1/2 c of good dry vermouth or dry white wine and about 1 c of chicken broth. Pepper, some thyme would be nice. I would add about 1/3 c of low sodium soy sauce but that is just me. Cover and cook on low for about 5-6 hours.

A friend of mine approached me at a football game last Sat. She knows I enjoy cooking

She was mentioning that after the game, she is going home to a roasted chicken that was made in the crockpot. I was a lil confused, but she said this is her favorite way to make a whole chicken. She added seasonings on the outside, put in some herbs and lots of garlic cloves in the cavity, then turned it on low. I followed up with her on Monday, and she said that once again, it was fabulous. She swears it is the best way to not dry out the breast meat. I still can't get my mind around this. I would think that it would fall off the bones. Anyway, let me know what she decides to do. I am curious myself

Unless I nag her, she'll probably let them rot, but I'm hoping she will try the chicken. I am crock

pot clueless, never had one and, as I told my husband, I've survived without one for more than 50 years, I don't think I'll start now.
