I've been 4 times now to Bossa Nova in West Los Angeles, and they make the most amazing blackened cajun sauce. Does anyone have a recipe like this? We had it over rice and grilled shrimp - I was mopping my bread in it! The restaurant menu explains it like this:

Cajun Blackened Platter Hot! Hot! Hot! (it wasn't!)

Sauteed green and red bell peppers and mushrooms, in our own blackened creamy Cajun sauce.

Hi Cheezz - is this close? REC Brazillian Hot Sauce

1 tbsp olive oil
2 cups finely chopped onions
5 scallions, trimmed and finely chopped
1 green bell pepper, finely chopped
1 red bell pepper, finely chopped
3 cloves garlic, minced
3 tomatoes, peeled, seeded, and chopped
2 cups vegetable stock
1/2 cup chopped fresh cilantro
2 tbsp lime juice
1 cup light coconut milk
Salt and ground pepper to taste
Cayenne pepper, to taste

Heat oil in a large, non-stick skillet over medium heat. Saute onions, scallions, bell peppers, and garlic. Cook, stirring often, for 6 to 8 minutes, or until the vegetables are soft and translucent but not brown.

Increase heat to high, add the tomatoes and cook for two minutes or until most of the juice from the tomatoes has evaporated. Stir in the stock and 1/4 cup of the cilantro. Cook for 10 to 15 minutes, or until slightly reduced and richly flavored. Remove from the heat and add lime juice.

Transfer the vegetable mixture to a blender. Puree until smooth and return to the skillet. Add the coconut milk and reduce the heat to medium and simmer for 3 minutes. Season with salt and pepper, cayenne pepper, and the remaining cilantro.

Yes, and the only change I make is I use about half the amount of onions

as they can be a little overpowering. I love coconut milk, so I found it once when doing a google search for recipes using it. Also, I don't make it hot hot hot - probably about the intensity that you described that the restaurant made. Hubby loves hot food, but me, not so much. He can add more cayenne pepper to his own! ;o)

Review: GREAT! I made it this evening with roasted chicken and potatoes... I loved it.

DH said it isn't what he had at the restaurant. It was his dish, I only tasted it, but I sure do like this recipe you posted. It will go in my 'keep' file. Now we have to go back to the restaurant and bring home some of that sauce for a side-by-side!

BTW, I used the full amount of onions - once they cook down, they are sweet and mild. Thanks Dawn!
