On another cooking forum, they were talking about the salts they use. Hawaiian Black Sea Salt was brought up several times. Someone said it was a hit sprinkled on cuke slices at a party. Have you used it? I have the Hawaiian Red Sea Salt. It is great.

I've used it, Karen and it has a dramatic look to it due to the lava minerals in it

The flavor to others may be "exotic" but to me it tastes like salty rocks with an overtone of iron.

I do love the red salt though- our dirt here is red clay and the red comes from that so I guess I like the taste of salty clay but not salty rocks. LOL!

Thanks Cathy, I should have given you the correct name, it is Black Lava Sea Salt

I found it on Amazon and placed an order for it due to the great comments from other foodies. I also ordered a truffle and sea salt combo. I love to try different salts but have to be careful with it.

Gotta agree with the "salty rocks" description!

My reaction was more like "hmmm - looks like lava, tastes like lava". Didn't want lava in my food. smileys/smile.gif

Sorry Karen, hope your palate is more sophisticated than mine!

Well, it is on it's way to my door, so I will report back to you. Maybe it should be used

as a beautiful adornment on an appetizer or veggie.
