Oh my...I hadn't heard of this until now. How awful. I'm sure Cathy is Ok, whether she can...

get to a computer to check in with us (or whether she has time to check out the swap) is debatable.

Here I am- we are fine- thank you for your concern, everyone

Holy cow. It was a pretty sizable disaster for little Kauai- we are still cut off from the rest of the island. The highway is closed about a mile from us and there is no estimate as to when it will be open again. The road bed was severely compromised by the "tidal wave" of water and debris that went over it. If you want to see photos and read the story, go to http://www.kauaiworld.com and click on the "read more" under the first photo- then, when you go to that second page, scroll down to "photo gallery"- there are three "pages" of photos. The dams and reservoirs are/were about 5 miles from us.

As of this morning the missing folks have not been found- Still only one confirmed dead and seven still missing. The officials are still being very cautious not to send searchers in because the second dam is in danger of bursting. Down on the Koloa side there is another dam that is in serious danger of breaching as well. We do not need more rain!

Thanks for thinking of me, everybody- I was really surprised to hear that there was a thread wondering about how we are. It must have made the national news.

Thanks for asking - we're fine. We're not getting as much rain as poor Kauai is..

Certain parts of Oahu were also getting flooded last week, and the additional amounts of rain this week are worrisome, since the ground is so saturated.

And Kauai is not quite out of the woods yet - more rain is forecasted for the rest of the week.

Keeping my fingers crossed for that second dam....

Glad to hear you're OK, Cathy, btw it made international news...

I was talking with a friend in Australia and he mentioned seeing it on their own news broadcast (not CNN). Same thing with a cousin in Austria, who's planning a honeymoon in Hawaii, and wanted to know if they should change any plans (months away, he's being a worrywort).

Glad you're safe, hope the rain stops for you!

Best wishes,
R.

So glad and relieved you both are safe. I lost an Aunt in the Big Thompson...

...Canyon flood of 1976 in Colorado.

It came so fast... just like a dam bursting.

Whew!

Michael

I heard about the dam breach early....

and my first thought was about you!
So glad that you are safe. Hope the other worrisome dams hold.
