to you.

I had the required, pre-company, drama last night and it's smooth sailing from here on in. I'm quite calm now smileys/smile.gif

we'll get pics and menus posted next week.

hugs

I emptied the mailbox

Randi- I'm glad it will be smooth sailing now. I always have SOMETHING go wrong before company but to me, that is the fun of entertaining. Not long ago I did a Thai dinner for 9 people and stupid me, I used Jasmine rice for Pat's Coconut Cilantro Rice instead of Basmati. I have done this before successfully but that day I used a brand I didn't know. It turned to MUSH. Like mashed potatoes! I ended up scooping it into small balls, dusting with rice flour and deep frying. Everybody thought I created some fantastic thing. Whew. Another disaster averted.

Have a ball and enjoy yourself.

sounds like you did create something fantastic. what a clever save.

fortunately, mine was kitchen related. mid evening I realized I hadn't seen one of our cats since early afternoon. I went out several times looking for him. it's now close to mid-night and I know I won't sleep. finally checked a closet and there was RooRoo, locked in for 8 hrs.

one would think that he would have been wailing away since he never shuts up anyway!

other than tired, things are going great.

or finding a 1" hole in the cheesecake left on the counter and a very

contented cat sleeping under the counter.

The cake was meant to have been the dessert at a dinner. We ended up making an emergency stop at the french bakery.

too funny Ang '-)) one of my friends went into totall denial, even with a paw print on the cake ;-

she could have cut it in serving pieces and fan out the pieces artfully on a plate,

and no one would miss 1 missing piece with the hole in it, now would they? I think no one will ever come visit me and eat my cakes now---I have 2 cats.

Or... Happily baking a box of frosting and wondering why nothing is looking very good...

(back in the day of box frosting mix) in the oven and also trying to figure out why the cake mix box feels so heavy! I was making a cake for a dinner party that my parents were having back in 1970something. Trust me my friends, there was no easy save here!

Funny - one holiday weekend (Memorial Day, I think) we ran up and down

the streets looking for one of the cats who we hadn't seen in hours. We were frantic, but finally decided to go to a planned outing and hope for the best when we returned. All I could think about was the poor, missing cat who was SOMEwhere, lost, stuck, (hurt?), etc.

It wasn't until we were home and in the backyard that evening that we heard a pitiful little "meeeooooowww" coming from the upstairs window.

Our little "boy" had quietly meandered upstairs (door not even closed!) in the morning and was sleeping contently all day. Not even stuck up there, just wanted to say hello when he heard us outside ;o) Happy ending to a worrisome day.

At least she still had a cake. Our friends' dog ate an entire pineapple upside-down cake off the

counter while we were in the next room enjoying the main course.

OK, bacon/leek flans are cooling, blueberry crisp is done, plums for the tatin are

cooking on the stove top. Richard will be here in half hour.... may the kitchen gods continue to smile on me!

we'll seeya all in a few days as we have many things planned for the next few days. menus and recipes will be posted.

have a great weekend everyone!

funny stories, I'm surprised some of the animals didn't get sick from all the sugar '-))

tatin is in the oven. I guessed wrong from where Richard called from so I'm now a lady in waiting. I decided I should try the lemon vodka to make sure it's OK to serve '-))
