Hello, I am new to posting on this forum but have been lurking and trying many recipes. You all have some great recipes. My request is this. My niece, newly married would like to make chicken and drop dumplings for her husband. He really likes his Mom's but she won't give her the recipe. I would really be interested in technique as much as the recipe. Thanks

chicken dumplings

DUMPLINGS:
Mix 1 1/2 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons baking powder
Add
1 tablespoon oil to 2/3 cup milk
Stir into dry mixture to make a soft dough.
A tablespoon of minced parsley may be added for parsley dumplings.
Drop batter from a tablespoon into the boiling stew.

Happy Cooking,

Yes, Welcome! Reminds me of an episode when Marie wouldn't share...

her recipe for something-or-other with Deborah on "Everybody Loves Raymond", and Deborah ended up using tarragon instead of parsley.

Funny how some people get possessive about thier recipes (unless they are in business to sell the food item or something).

Of course the reverse of that...

You give a recipe to someone with all the specifics and they change it and then say it isn't like yours and that you left something out!

And I think everyone liked Deborah.s version better. Marie didn't like that one bit.

Maybe the MIL has made it so long that she has no recipe---it's in her head and she doesn't quite know how to write it down or tell it. Did anyone grow up with the chicken and "dumpling" recipe where the dumpling is actually more like a noodle? I had this once where they called it pork and dumplings, but the dumplings were more like flat inch square pasta.

Yes, when my mom and dad married, he kept telling her he wanted dumplings and she made

the traditional kind, but of course, that wasn't what he wanted. She finally found out he meant the slick or rolled dumplings. I think the recipe someone gave her and that I use to make noodles is probably a version of that. It has light cream along with egg and also baking powder.
